JWMS Criteria for Participation in End of Year Activities

James Workman has developed an official policy regarding student participation in special activities at the end of the academic year. Traditionally, JWMS has held grade level BBQ's and other special events to honor students' hard work. Students need to start the school year with the end in mind; the criteria that will be used to determine participation eligibility in end of the year activities can be found below:

Criteria for Participation Activities– ALL GRADES
Students who work hard have the opportunity to participate in exciting activities throughout the year. In an effort to help students be more successful in middle school, to help them develop and maintain good study habits and focus, and to provide a more structured transition from elementary school to high school, the criteria for participation all activities are listed below:
- Maintain a minimum of a 2.0 current year cumulative GPA (Trimester and Hexmester/Progress Report grades will be averaged to determine student GPA)
- Receive no more than 10 days of ISS/OSS combined throughout the school year
- Receive no referral resulting in ISS/OSS within 30 days of the event (exclusion list)
To Determine Activity Participation Eligibility Use the Following Data:
- First Trimester Activity Eligibility Determined by Hexmester 1/Progress Report GPA
- Second Trimester Activity Eligibility Determined by Trimester 1 GPA; then Trimester 1 GPA plus Hexmester 3/Progress Report Averaged
- Third Trimester Activity Eligibility Determined by Trimester 1 GPA plus Trimester 2 GPA Averaged; then End of Year Activity Eligibility Determined by Trimester 1 GPA plus Trimester 2 GPA plus Hexmester 5/Progress Report Averaged
Students not meeting the GPA criteria will be excluded from activities until the next marking period when GPA is averaged again.
End-of-year activities include (but are not limited to):
- School Dances
- End of Year Picnic
- Grade Level Trip
- Teacher vs. Teacher Basketball
- Assemblies
- Promotion (8th Grade)
- Any other activities not listed here at administrator's discretion
All of this information will be shared with students at the beginning of the year in grade level assemblies, and throughout the year by teachers and administrators. If you or your child has any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the office for clarification.
